Make a donation

The Local Elections Act outlines the rules governing campaign contributions. Candidates cannot accept anonymous donations.

Alberta residents and corporations may contribute up to $5,000 to a municipal election candidate. Receipts are provided for all contributions, and when it is $50 or more, candidates are required to record the name and address of the contributor as part of their campaign disclosure statements.

“In-kind” contributions (property, goods and services) must be valued and receipted. Records of campaign contributions and expenses must be filed with the municipality on or before March 1, 2026 and must be kept until March 1, 2029.

The Local Elections Authorities Act requires candidates to disclose financial contributions before the election.
